Obesity affects some groups more than others
There are individuals at all economic and education levels who are obese, but some groups have a higher prevalence of obesity than other groups (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2012c).
- 49.5 % of non-Hispanic blacks are obese.
- 40.4% of Mexican Americans are obese.
- 39.1% of all Hispanics are obese.
- 34.3% of non-Hispanic whites are obese.
- Higher income non-Hispanic black and Mexican American males are more likely to be obese than those with low incomes.
- Women with higher incomes are less likely to be obese than women with lower incomes.
- Women with less education are more likely to be obese than are women with college degrees.
- Education level does not significantly affect obesity levels among men.
